Filming on 30th October

Today we filmed Chris and Courtney. We got lots of different angles and shots of them walking into camera, over the shoulder shot, and panning shots. The filming went well and we got all of the shots that we needed even though we had to stop half way though because of the weather.

We then filmed later on the same day using Tom's car headlights. The filming could have gone better. We needed to get a lot of shots but had to cut the filming short because of the cold and foggy weather.

We have planned another filming session on the 2nd November with the band at Brick Yard Lane Brigg.

Planning and Organisation (P&O) Actors and Locations 1

On Friday 16th my group filmed some of our music video but we focused on the first verse and on Chris and Courtney's part which was Courtney walking towards Chris past the band. I think the filming went well and we got most of the shots before it started raining and we had to stop again.

We were using a housing estate and because it rained halfway though we rescheduled for a couple of days after. 

This is what we filmed:Alarm clock rings another day in hell begins (clip of a band member turning off their alarm and getting out of bed)
I'm going out of my mind, until she walks in (close up of the lead singers face, then the camera cuts to courtney walking past the band towards Chris) 
They say love is blind, but my vision is fine (close up of Connors face)

This was a practice for the band on preforming the song and so they could come in and Tom could create a MP3 file for the soundtrack that we are going to use. We also did this so we could practice filming.

Planning: Real Locations 2

This garden shot is ideal as we want to appeal to an audience who are lower middle class and up. It is also rural and this breaks conventions as usually music videos of the soft rock genre are very urban. 

I like this location for a guitar solo. It provides natural framing. 

This is an extreme long shot. It is a potential location for the narrative of the song. Alternatively the band could walk into camera. 

Woodland shot - this location could add to the mood of the video. 

This location is a super natural frame for shots. 

This is a possible location for Courtney and Chris, it connotes a romantic image. 

These are all locations that we could use for our music video. We chose these locations because they are places that the band could get their equipment to if we need them for a certain shot. We have also chosen these because we think that they fit our music video and we could get some really good angles from these locations.

Band Name Change

The band my group are using have changed their name from Peaceful Panic to Southbank.

Planning: A Video Shoot With Chris and Courtney

We planned to do a photo shoot with Chris and Courtney for Monday 28th of September but it was cancelled and moved to the Tuesday the next day because Chris couldn't make it

I think the photo shoot went very well on Tuesday and we got as many pictures of Chris and Courtney and at as many angles as possible. We choose these two actors because they are close friends to us and they are an actual couple so it will be easy for them to give a realistic performance of the couple in the video. I'm going to bring my sunglasses as a prop and we told Chris and Courtney to wear casual smart jeans and plain T-shirt without a logo.  Courtney is bringing some makeup so they will look as natural as possible.

Photos Of The Band We Are Using

These images allow us to consider what our artists will look. We will need to ensure they have the costume that will suit the genre of the song. I also want to direct them to look more voyeuristic. We want them to sing into camera and really form a relationship with the audience [ Goodwin]

We won't be shooting in this room as there is a pink sofa and we want to avoid the symbolic readings associated with pink.
Dyer " a star is an image..." i think we need to meet with the band and discuss the star image we wish to create. It will be important for our TA to relate to the boys in the band [Blumler & Katz]

I like the idea of this low angle shot as it makes him look more powerful and dominant. Our preferred dominant reading [ Hall/ Morley] is that our TA understand that relationships are difficult. The TA is aged 16 - 22 and during this age, most young people like the same girl/ boy and we think that they will be able to relate well to our narrative.
According to Propp there is always a villain- for our MV it is possible that Chris will seem to fill this role. However, we will have to wait for TA feedback and find out if this is what our audience understood. It is possible that some readings will be negotiated and some boys may admire him for his actions.







 I took these pictures because it shows what instruments the band members play.  Their current look also helped to inspire our creativity when it comes to planning costumes and the star image we want for our video.
